Full Review

I've always been a fan of Ben Chandler's work, and this time, joined with the brilliant writing of Steven Poulton, the duo have truly created a masterpiece. Eternally Us puts you in the shoes of Amber, who has just lost her best friend, Fio, to an enigmatic undead-looking man. Amber follows the man through a dark doorway, and into a mysterious world where she embarks on a search for her lost friend. There is, of course, more to the story, but I'll leave you to find that out for yourself.

The game shines through its brilliant writing and narrative. Amber's script and voice-acting stay truthful to her emotions - her desperation and pain comes through with every word she utters, and becomes almost tear-inducing towards the last few scenes. The narrative develops quickly beyond what it initially appears to be, and into something a lot more psychological in nature, which allows this game to be enjoyed by a more mature audience.

The artwork of this game, handled by Ben Chandler, is absolutely beautiful. The painted backgrounds effectively augment the on-going narrative and firmly cements the delusional theme surrounding this title with elements of surreality and dream-like transitions between scenes. Characters are well designed and animated, giving a near professional level of visual quality to this work.

However, there are some shortcomings of this game that makes it fall short of the full 5 stars. I am occasionally hit by a large wall of text that disappear before I am able to finish reading it. It would be a lot more accessible to maintain smaller, single-sentenced dialogue for slower readers. The length of the game is also pretty short in comparison to full length adventure games, with a play duration of effectively 10-15 minutes.

But the pros of this title heavily outweigh the cons, and it would be very wise of you to head over to Ben's website and download this game now.

It's Amber, not Ember.
